Once you have decided to become an armed security guard, you will have to undergo several pieces of training and submit permits to carry a weapon. In the end, to protect the U.S citizens not everyone can carry a firearm. Therefore, there is a so-called class g security license that allows a security guard to carry and use his weapon in case the situation asks for it.
Not everyone can obtain a class g security license in the U.S. First, only U.S citizens or people with a permanent legal alien status are eligible to apply. Second, you will need to pass a training course which entails carrying and using firearms. Once you have completed the training course, a Security Guard Registration w/Firearm Permit Live Scan form signed by the Live Scan site operator needs to be submitted along with several application fees.
Learn How to Use a Firearm
People carrying firearms need to know how to use it. That is why you will need to follow another firearm training course of 8 hours in a classroom setting and 6 hours of practice training on the firing range.
The theoretical part of the training covers topics like:
- Moral and legal aspects of firearms
- How to handle and how to shoot with a firearm
- Emergency procedures when carrying a firearm
- Firearms Terminology
A bureau-certified firearms training instructor needs to give the course at a bureau certified training facility. This is to make sure that not everyone can just give firearms courses and this way the quality of the courses can be guaranteed. At the end of the course, you will need to complete a written and range exam to prove that you know how to handle a firearm.
Lastly, it is important to know that you are not allowed to carry a firearm without a class g security license as a security guard. Also, you will have to re-qualify every 2 years to make sure that you can still handle a firearm. Contact us now for more information.
